A challenge from the sky to the sea (from 2,427 to 0 metres)
El Roque de los Muchachos
Transvulcania Media Maratón
The Transvulcania Media Maratón is a less demanding mountain race than the Ultramaratón, since it only covers part of the last 28 km of the Ultra.
Starting from the top of the island at the Roque de Los Muchachos to the finish line located in Los Llanos de Aridane, the Half Marathon runs along part of the Caldera rim, at an altitude of almost 2,400 metres and descends very steeply almost to sea level in just 23 kilometres, so technique is very important for this part of the race and the descent requires good physical fitness.
The short version of the Ultra has a cumulative elevation gain of 840 metres, a cumulative elevation loss of 2,890 metres, and a total elevation change of 3,730 meters in a length of 28 kilometres. All this, along the rim of La Caldera de Taburiente and descending to the beautiful panoramic view of the port and beach of Tazacorte, always with the imposing mass of Pico Bejenado covered with pine forests as a backdrop.
Athletes must carry the mandatory gear at all times during the race. You should be prepared for random checks on the course, and if you are missing any item you will receive a time penalty and may not be allowed to continue the race
Attention!!! The start of the Media Maratón takes place in the morning in an altitude of 2,400 m, so the weather conditions at that hour and place may be adverse. We recommend take a warm coat that you can leave in your drop bag.
